Joseph Williams was born and raised in North Carolina. He served 30 years as a Family Court Judge in North Carolina, retiring in July 2024. Joseph first came to Costa Rica in 1992 with the Methodist church and fell in love with the country and its people. When he heard from his friend Kenneth Vargas about possible human trafficking occurring in the Tamarindo area of Costa Rica, his heart was moved by God to encourage his church to begin ministering to the children of Costa Rica.

After going on a mission trip in 2023 with Central Church of God, Joseph and his wife, Liliana, decided to answer the call to serve as full-time missionaries in Costa Rica. Joseph resigned from his job, and he and Liliana sold their house, packed up their children, and moved to Costa Rica. They began street evangelism in Matapalo in August of 2024. Joseph is the President of A Door of Hope.
